HARM REDUCTION STRATEGIES: A Gestalt Approach to Work with Drug Users

Harm Reduction can be understood as a Gestalt approach to addressing drug use. Some of the key themes linked to Gestalt therapy are phenomenological assessment, experiential engagement, mobilization of strengths, and orientation to subjective experience in relation to the environment. Drug use is seen as a creative adjustment like other defense strategies or behavior with drawbacks. The harmful consequences of drug use are individually experienced in unique context; in Harm Reduction management and behavior change are self-directed and occur in-relation.
